What is Medical Massage?
 
Medical Massage is simply this:  it's doctor prescribed.  When a doctor prescribes massage, the massage therapist now has a diagnosis from the doctor and a protocol to follow.  This protocol dictates  how the massage is  done by way of specific medical massage and neuromuscular techniques with the intent of having a functional outcome.
 
A presciption also allows the massage therapy to be filed under insurance.  However, each person's insurance policy will vary, and there are things the insurance company will and won't pay for based on a number of factors.  Massage therapists may or may not choose to bill insurance based on the possibility of payout.  Instead, they may choose to work out a payment schedule that is affordable for the client in order to receive continual care during recovery.
 
Medical massage modalities can range from a variety of techniques, and can be performed by any qualified therapist.  However, anyone who holds themselves out to be a Medical Massage Therapist or Practitioner, will have a special certification stating so and has gone through additional, specialized training.
